1996 PPG Indy Car World Series - Finished 18th in season points driving in his third full season for Derrick Walker Motorsports with Valvoline/Cummins backing. He scored three top-10 and one top-5 and achieved five top-10 starts. Signs with Team SABCO to drive No. 40 Coors Light Chevrolet in the NASCAR Winston Cup Series for 1997. NASCAR Winston Cup Series - After joining Team SABCO in August, Gordon drove in three late-season events that included the UAW GM Quality 500 at Charlotte (driving a Dale Earnhardt Inc. entry), the AC Delco 400 at Rockingham and the Dura Lube 500 at Phoenix. Indy Racing League - Started 3rd and finished 14th in the inaugural IRL racing event held the new Las Vegas Motor Speedway on September 15. True Value International Race of Champions - Finished second in points for the series. Race results: Second at Daytona (started 10th), second at Talladega (started 11th), 12th at Charlotte (started 12th), and 4th at Michigan (started 12th). Off-Road Truck Racing - Won four of six SCORE International off-road truck races. Earned first-ever SCORE Series Trophy Truck class championship with third-place finish in November's season ending Baja 1000. NASCAR Craftsman SuperTruck Series - Drove in NASCAR SuperTruck series events at North Wilkesboro, N.C. September 26th (started 6th, finished 13th) and at Las Vegas, Nev. 1995 PPG Indy Car World Series - Drove '95 Reynard-Ford/Cosworth for Walker Racing with backing from the Valvoline Company. Scored first PPG Indy Car wins at Phoenix and Detroit. Finished fifth in final PPG Cup Points. Off-Road Truck Racing - Finished 8th in the SCORE International Trophy Truck class points championship.
1994 PPG Indy Car World Series - Finished fifth in the series with 104 points. Scored first-ever career Indy car pole at Toronto for Walker Racing as well as set the track record. Scored second career pole at Vancouver. Was ranked fourth for most poles with two. Started in the top-10 in 14 of 18 events with nine top-10 finishes. Started in the top-five eight out of 16 races and had six top-five finishes. Led 59 laps for the season ranking him seventh in most laps led. Highest finish was second at Vancouver. Also had two third-place finishes at Long Beach and Detroit bringing his podium finishes to three. Was voted "Most Improved Driver" by his racing peers. NASCAR SuperTruck Series - Drove in the inaugural NASCAR SuperTruck Series race at Tucson Raceway Park. Off-Road Truck Racing - Competed in four SCORE International Off-Road events including the legendary Baja 1000. NASCAR Winston Cup Series - Ran the first race for the newly-formed Kranefuss-Hass Racing Team at Michigan. Started 38th finished 38th.
1993 PPG Indy Car World Series - First full season driving Indy cars. Finished 10th in PPG Cup standings with 84 points. Opened season with third-place finish in a Lola-Ford/Cosworth for car owner A.J. Foyt in Australia. Best finish was second at Mid-Ohio. Also finished fourth at Nazareth, Pa. And fifth at Loudon, N.H. as well at sixth at Cleveland and Toronto. Was running second on final lap at Detroit before finishing eighth after a flat tire. International Motorsports Association (IMSA) - Exxon Supreme GT Series - Captured fourth consecutive IMSA GTS class win in the 24 Hours of Daytona for Roush Racing. NASCAR Winston Cup Series - Drove for Robert Yates Racing at the July Talladega DieHard 500. Ran in top-five but was later involved in an accident. Started 14th finished 42nd. Off-Road Truck Racing - Ran in three selected off-road truck races. Highest finish was second place in the Nevada 400 at Las Vegas.
1992 PPG Indy Car World Series - First year in Indy Cars. Participated in seven events in a Lola-Ford/Cosworth for Ganassi Racing. Ended season 20th in PPG Cup points standings with 10 points. Finished eighth at Toronto and Cleveland street circuit races. Became the only rookie to lead a lap during the season after leading one circuit in Cleveland. Also started races in Detroit (17th), Portland (13th), Milwaukee (21st), Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin, (18th) and Vancouver (17th). IMSA - Exxon Supreme Series - Scored third straight IMSA GTO class win (now GTS) in the 24 Hours of Daytona for Roush Racing. Started from pole, led all 48 laps and crossed the finish line first in the IMSA GTO race in Del Mar, California. Sports Car Club of America (SCCA) - Trans Am - Recorded a victory in first career SCCA Trans-Am start in Ling Beach, California, for Roush Racing from his first Trans-Am pole.
1991 IMSA GTO/GTU Series - Recorded second straight MISA GTO class win in the 24 Hours of Daytona driving a Ford Mustang for Roush Racing. Also won IMSA GTO events at Braselton, Ga, Del Mar, Calif., Lime Rock, Conn, Portland, Ore., and Sebring, Fla. NASCAR Winston Cup Series - Made NASCAR Winston Cup debut with 18th- place finish in Daytona 500. Also ran in the Pontiac 400 at Richmond finishing 26th after starting 35th.
1990 IMSA GTO/GTU Series - First season of professional automobile racing. Joined Jack Roush and competed in the GTO series. Captured GTO class win in the 24 Hours of Daytona driving a Mercury Couger. Crossed the finish line first in four IMSA events (Del Mar, Calif. Lime Rock, Conn., New Jersey Meadowlands and Sebring, Fla.) Ended season in final IMSA GTO points standings. Automobile Racing Club of America (ARCA) - Started from the pole in his first-ever career stock car (ARCA) superspeedway event at the Atlanta Motor Speedway for car owner Junie Donlevey. Led the race but later spun on oil ending his run. Off-Road Truck Racing - Won SCORE/HDRA heavy Metal off-road championship. Ran all seven races and won four while driving for Veneble Racing.
1989 Off-Road Truck Racing - Competed driving for Veneble Ford Factory team in off-road series. Won five off-road truck races, including a solo drive for 16 hours and 50 minutes in the Saja 1000. Was a member of the Toyota factory team in the Mickey Thompson stadium series. Captured the chequered flag in six of eight events en route to the series title. Elected to the AARWBA Auto Racing All-American Team.
1988 Off-Road Truck Racing - Signed first professional contract with Veneble Racing. Won four off-road truck races and first championship for the Ford factory team. Ran own 1600 Mickey Thompson car, claiming the SCORE/HDRA and MTEG drivers' points championship. Elected to the AARWBA Auto Racing All-American Team.
1987 Off-Road Truck Racing - Earned a second consecutive SCORE/HDRA championship. Teamed with father to win three races en route to capturing the title while earning SCORE/HDRA "Rookie of the Year" honours.
1986 Off-Road Truck Racing - Teamed with father to win four off-road events en route to a SCORE/HDRA championship.
1985 Off-Road Truck Racing - Sharing driving duties with Frank Arciero, Gordon won the Nevada Frontier 500, the first off-road race he ever entered. Finished ahead of second-place, father and veteran off-road racer, Bob Gordon. Scored victory in first-ever Mickey Thompson stadium series event ever entered.
1976-84 Motocross Racing - Began racing when he was seven years old. Won major competitions by age 15. Was told he could race off-road trucks with his father if he were to quit racing motocross.
